A System of Systems
book
This book was a collaboration with my Making Books. Weird Systems. studio. We were each granted sixteen pages to use AI generated text to explore ‘the book’ as a system.
My segment explores the concept of physical space on a page as a vessel of information.
The design of the text is a sequence of stories, or sections, that tells a narrative on defining what a book is, and exploring the importance of space in a book. I try to use space as my theme. The sequence allows AI to contradict itself, and readers are encouraged to form their own interpretation and understanding. The narrative progresses from a very basic definition of what a book is, to a broad consideration of a book’s relationship with space. Fittingly, my process for the book layout was an exploration of the physical space on the page. I tried to explore what I could do with the page, tried to force readers to explore the page as they read. I took a lot of inspiration from Futurism and Dada, and the way they experiment with readability.
