When Facing
The Telescreen

book

People in private moments, shared with the entire world through the internet. Created to make you feel uncomfortable about our future

of privacy and surveillance in technology.

I made this book because I’m interested in people being human in front of a camera. When someone holds up a camera, you smile. You put on a filter when facing a camera, because you are so conscious that someone else is watching you - now and in the future. The people in this book don’t have that filter, and that’s what makes you feel invasive as a reader.

The telescreen is a constant camera. Even though the telescreen is yet to exist, we live in a reality where people are constantly being seen and shared. The younger generations don’t need to be told this. This book doesn’t have a definitive answer. It makes you question the ethics of looking at these private images, even though they’re located on the internet in public archives, free to access by all. It’s juxtaposing.
