When making Kobie the Kugel, I tried to prioritise the people it’s written for, and what they're going to take from it - using collage to heighten engagement, interactivity, and imagination. I made Kobie as a book that children can really enjoy. Lauren Child (my favourite author) describes, “trying to get to the essence of everything … to come in sideways and show them something while allowing the child to interpret it as they want.” Kobie shows children it’s ok to be embarrassed, and to rely on the people who care about you. Kids should know it’s ok to be different.
